Dental FAQs

At MacKay Dental Care, we are often asked questions about how to maintain great oral health. Here, we will share some of the most commonly asked questions. We will add to this list over time as well.

Q. Do Teeth Whitening Toothpastes really work?

A. As with all toothpastes, teeth whitening toothpastes contain mild abrasives to remove surface stains. Teeth whitening toothpastes might have additional polishing agents and special chemicals that are more effective against stains than regular toothpastes. Whitening toothpastes might make your teeth look a little lighter by removing stains, but they do not bleach your teeth.

Q. What is Tooth Sensitivity?

A. Tooth sensitivity is a common problem that affects millions of people. When you experience tooth sensitivity, it means you are experiencing pain or discomfort to your teeth from sweets, cold air, hot drinks, cold drinks or frozen desserts. Some people with sensitive teeth even experience discomfort from brushing and flossing. The good news is that sensitive teeth can be treated.
